Four Flin Flon natives attended a nursing class reunion in Winnipeg over the summer.

Connie (Hanson) Gibson of Okanagan Falls, BC; Noreen (Berry) McGuire and Val (McFadden) Walters of Brandon; and Bobbie Lister of Ottawa graduated from the Victoria General Hospital nursing program in January 1970.

On June 19, 20 and 21, they attended a class reunion marking 45 years since graduation. Eighteen of the surviving 23 graduates (out of a class of 26) attended.

“It is a wonderful friendship to share,” says Gibson. “Some gals have retired, and some continue to work.”

Two other Flin Flon ladies were also part of that graduating class. Robbie (Burling) Coller lives in Calgary and was unable to attend to reunion, while Donna (Bell) Fancy passed away in 2003.

Gibson says the nursing graduates hold a reunion every five years in various cities.

“Most have attended one or all of these gatherings,” she says.

“They look forward to meeting again for their 50th in 2020.”
