Flin Flon MLA Clarence Pettersen is facing a challenger for the NDP nomination.
Tom Lindsey will be on the ballot when party members in the Flin Flon constituency hold a nomination meeting on Dec. 11.
Lindsey, a retired union health and safety representative at Hudbay, had long been rumoured as a challenger to the rookie MLA.
He and Leslie Beck lost the nomination to Pettersen in 2011. Pettersen went on to win the general election with 57 per cent support.
Alex McGilvery, chairman of the Flin Flon NDP Constituency Committee, said a notice of nomination and ballots will be sent to party members on Nov. 4.
The provincial NDP office must receive ballots in the mail by Dec. 10. At that point, the ballots will be transported from Winnipeg to Flin Flon for the nomination meeting on Dec. 11.
McGilvery said individuals must be party members by this Monday, Nov. 2 at 4:30 pm in order to cast a ballot. All ballots will be mailed, with no in-person voting.
He encourages people to join the political party of their choice, saying it allows people to truly have a say in policy.
McGilvery is staying neutral in the race, saying his job is to ensure the race is fair and transparent.
There had been a third candidate for the nomination, Ed Azure of Nelson House, but he has bowed out, McGilvery said.
At last count, McGilvery said, the Flin Flon NDP Association had nearly 200 members. He said Pettersen, Lindsey and Azure were selling memberships at a good rate.
Lindsey could not be reached for comment. The Reminder will continue to follow the nomination process.
