The first Flin Flon luncheon of the fall season was held on Friday, Oct. 4 at the Ramada Viscount Gort Hotel in Winnipeg. Fifty-seven guests were in attendance in Ballroom A on the main floor. We enjoyed another fabulous roast beef dinner, hot vegetables, cabbage rolls, four salads, fresh fruit and dessert trays, along with tea and coffee. As usual, we welcomed new guests to our luncheon. This month Jenny Allbutt joined us as her 'aunt' Helen Smallwood's guest. Jenny is the granddaughter of the late Ruth McIsaac. During the business portion of our lunch, we canvassed our group for people who could act as phone contacts for future lunches. Four volunteers came forward. We will be raising the price of the luncheons at our first spring luncheon in March 2014. At that time the price will be $22 (including taxes and gratuities), up from $20. The executive believes this is a fair increase since the provincial sales tax has been raised. The cost is still considerably lower than the hotel's listed buffet price, which is $23 before taxes. The next luncheon will be held at noon Friday, Nov. 1 in the Viscount Room on the second floor of the Ramada Viscount Gort Hotel. Hope to see everyone there.
