“We serve.” It’s the motto of Lions clubs around the world, and as the local branch gathered to celebrate its anniversary, there was no denying its suitability.
Members joined spouses and invited guests at the Flin Flon Lions Club’s Charter Night on Wednesday evening at the Victoria Inn’s Northern Room.
“I’ll tell ya, Flin Flon’s a busy club,” District Governor Louise Kernested, the evening’s guest of honour, said at one point.
Kernested, in from Stonewall, Manitoba, helped the club mark its 62nd anniversary at a dinner and awards ceremony whose atmosphere was as warm as it was upbeat.
During her address to the crowd of about 40 people, she shared words from Jitsuhiro Yamada, the current international president of the Lions.
She stressed the importance of making a difference in the lives of children, and urged the Lions to ensure people know about the “fantastic things” they do.
Kernested also said that while Lions clubs have great leaders, sometimes those leaders need a break during which other members can step up.
