The Flin Flon Kinettes Club hopes a new fundraising venue will make a “reel” difference for the community.
For the third year, the Kinettes are hosting Movies for a Cause to raise funds for various community projects.
Movies were previously shown at the Hapnot Collegiate theatre, but a new partnership will see Creighton Community School’s gymnasium open for future movies.
Penguins of Madagascar, a children’s film, will kick off the new venue on Saturday, Feb. 7.
Thanks to Creighton Community School’s donation of the gym, moviegoers will see a reduced fee at the door.
The Kinettes hope to see an increase in funds raised at the movie, resulting in more donations for the community.
Movies for a Cause co-chair Krista Eastman says while movies do generate funds for future donations, it isn’t all about raising money.
“It’s about providing affordable family entertainment in our community,” she said.
Kinette Club president Marlene Gogal said she is “excited for the partnership with Creighton Community School.”
Creighton School’s Travel Club will be selling popcorn for the Feb. 7 movie while the Kinettes will have their concession available.
Creighton School will also be providing rides to and from the movie for Denare Beach residents.
There will be mats and bleachers available for sitting, but the Kinettes encourage everyone to bring their own camping chair for added comfort.
Big hits
Eastman says the club has previously shown big hits like The Lego Movie, The Hunger Games, Frozen and Planes, to name a few.
Eastman, along with co-chair Melissa Danis, are able to choose from select movie titles each month, with many of the options family orientated.
The Kinettes have been able to support the community through donations to the Women’s Resource Centre, the Northern Health Region’s palliative care unit and various other organizations.
