Flin Flon is back in the thick of things with the SnoRiders Sledtown Showdown. Flin Flon is in the final to determine the province’s top snowmobiling spot - and it needs some extra help.

The Sledtown Showdown, an annual online vote meant to determine western Canada’s most passionate snowmobile hotspots, has entered its provincial final stage. The victors are picked in a series of online polls hosted by the publication SnoRiders.

Each year, the publication holds a 16 community bracket for all four western Canadian provinces to determine the top sled town in each, with online polls used to determine winners. The winning community receives a Sledtown Showdown trophy, feature articles in SnoRiders and bragging rights for the town and for local snowmobile clubs.

Last year, Flin Flon won the national vote in the competition, which consisted of the winners from all four western Canadian provinces going head-to-head. Flin Flon has won the national poll in two out of the past three years.

In the past, Flin Flonners were able to fill the ballot box by voting once per day per device. The rules of this year’s poll have changed - this year, only one vote per device can be cast.

Flin Flon’s tactics in the past included encouraging people to vote several times per day, using different devices - that strategy will no longer work.

Tactics or no tactics, Flin Flon had no problems making it to the final rounds of the contest. In the start of the contest - held from Feb. 1-12 - Flin Flon put a whoopin’ on Russell and surrounding area, taking 91 per cent of the vote. Advancing to round two, Flin Flon faced off against Swan Valley, winning that vote with 87 per cent of votes cast, then picking up 73 per cent of all votes cast in a semifinal against The Pas.

Against Thompson, as of press time, Flin Flon was in an unusual situation - behind. Thompson was in the lead with 1,058 votes - 53.6 per cent in total - while Flin Flon was behind with 915 votes.

Voting ends March 26. Ballots can be cast on the SnoRiders website at snoriderswest.com/sledtown_showdown.
