Little change came for Flin Flon or northern Manitoba on the COVID-19 front Friday. Cases remained at similar levels - 30 new cases were reported, with nine cases now active in the Flin Flon district.
None of the new cases were reported in the Flin Flon/Snow Lake/Cranberry Portage/Sherridon district, where 29 people have tested positive. Of those 29 people, 20 have since recovered and no deaths have been reported.
The district hit hardest by new cases Friday was the Shamattawa/York Factory/Tataskweyak/Split Lake district, which saw net active cases jump up by 14, going from 54 active Thursday to 68 Friday. An outbreak at Shamattawa First Nation is spurring on cases - Chief Eric Redhead has requested help from the Canadian Armed Forces to help stop spread within the community, but as of Friday, help has not arrived in the remote community.
The Pas/OCN/Kelsey continues to lead the way of all northern Manitoba communities with 132 active cases, down from 139 Thursday. One new case was reported in the district Friday. Fast approaching is Island Lake, where another six people have tested positive, bringing that district up to 98 active cases.
The outbreak in Moose Lake/Mosakahiken Cree Nation is starting to slow down - no new cases were found in the community Friday, but 10 people who had previously had COVID-19 have recovered, dropping down from 64 cases to 54. Cases in Thompson/Mystery Lake dropped slightly, going from 37 to 35.
The province reported 318 net new COVID-19 cases Friday and nine more deaths from the disease, all in southern Manitoba communities. Manitoba has over 9,000 active cases - 9,172 to be exact - and 361 people with COVID-19 hospitalized. Fifty-five people are in intensive care due to COVID-19.
Saskatchewan
Manitoba's western neighbour had another day of high COVID-19 cases, racking up 283 new cases. Another person in the province, a person in their 80s from the south region, has died, bringing the province to 55 total deaths from COVID-19.
The zone including Creighton, Denare Beach, Pelican Narrows, Sandy Bay and other Saskatchewan communities near Flin Flon, the far north east 2 zone, is now over 100 active cases. Eight new cases were reported in the zone, bringing the number of cases active in the zone to 102 people. A community outbreak in Pelican Narrows is thought to be the site of a vast majority, if not all, of the cases in the region. No other communities in the district have confirmed cases - as of Dec. 3, the community had 82 active cases of the disease, with 176 tests in the community awaiting full results from the Roy Romanow Provincial Laboratory in Regina.
