Dancers pose for a group photo after the 2019 Dancing Down Main Street event, one of Flin Flon Culture Days’ marquee events.

It’s back again and it’s going to happen for a whole month. Culture Days will happen again in 2021 and it will include a smattering of events through late September and October.

This year’s Culture Days will consist of a month-long series of events, starting Sept. 24 with an exhibit at the Flin Flon Station Museum, a progressive bluegrass workshop at Johnny’s Social Club at 7 p.m. and a stargazing session at Phantom Lake.

While the 2021 edition of Culture Days will not be the same as those in years past, Flin Flon Arts Council cultural coordinator Crystal Kolt is pleased that events can be held at all.

“There won’t be 140 events. There’s about 30 events,” she said.

“The fact that we’re going to be having it, that’s going to be a triumph in and of itself.”

As the month continues, some familiar events will make their way back - the Wild Things Market will take place Sept. 25-26 at Creekside Park, starting at noon, while the Human Books events at the Flin Flon Public Library will take place staggered throughout the month, starting with Uptown Emporium proprietor Sophia Charuk Sept. 30.

The marquee event, the traditional Dancing Down Main Street, will take place at 12:30 p.m. Oct. 2, with all participants meeting at Pioneer Square. The dance will be led by instructor Logan Church, who will lead people down Main Street in a socially distanced fashion when possible. The Wild Rice Cabaret will also happen, but with a ticket reservation system similar to the Blueberry Jam Music Gathering earlier this summer and a vaccine requirement to enter, as per current Manitoba COVID-19 rules.

Events will include four days of acting workshops for students through the Manitoba Theatre for Young People from Oct. 18-21, a disc golf open house at Creekside Park, several performances from the Flin Flon Community Hall and others.
