The laws of the land are many in Flin Flon. Here is a look at some of the City's by-laws as found in A Citizen's Guide to the By-laws of the City of Flin Flon: No automobile, house trailer, tent, or other temporary structure shall be used as a permanent shelter without the permission of the (building) inspector. It is an offence for any person to own or occupy property on which is located a tree, shrub, hedge or other object that encroaches or overhangs on a municipal road in such a way as to cause an immediate hazard. The minimum charge for any permit for plumbing work shall be $15. Every dwelling shall be connected to an electrical supply system and be wired for electricity so that power is available at all times in all parts of every occupied dwelling. The minimum floor area of any room used by one person for sleeping shall be 60 square feet or, if used by more than one person, the area shall be 40 square feet per person. Skylights are not to be used as a sole means of lighting any room in a dwelling. Where a person becomes owner of a dog, brings a dog to live in the City of Flin Flon or a dog reaches the age of six months, the owner shall purchase a dog license within three weeks. No basement shall be used as a dwelling unit or habitable room unless it meets all the provisions of the maintenance and occupancy by-laws to constitute a habitable dwelling. No owner shall permit his/her dog to enter any school yard or playground. This does not apply to any person who is visually or hearing impaired and uses a dog specifically trained as a guide dog. No person shall carry on a business in a home without first obtaining a valid and subsisting license to do so, the fee for which shall be $100 per calendar year. No person shall park or leave a derelict vehicle on public or private property, including that in which they occupy, unless the property is zoned for that use. Adequate artificial light shall be available at all times in all rooms and in every stairway, hall, cellar and basement in a dwelling. The number of dogs in a household shall not exceed two dogs over six months of age. Licensed kennel owners and hobby breeders are exempted. The interior floors, ceilings and walls (of a building) shall be kept free from dampness arising from the entrance of moisture through an exterior wall or roof or through a cellar, basement or crawl space floor. Every building shall be maintained free from rodents, vermin and insect infestation and where extermination is necessary, methods used shall conform to generally accepted practices in the City of Flin Flon. No person shall operate or permit the operation of any tools or equipment used in construction, drilling, or demolition work on Sundays at any time, or on weekdays between the hours of 10 p.m. and 7 a.m., or on Saturdays and statutory holidays before 9 a.m. and after 9 p.m.
