Students in Christine Williams’ and Shonda Beauchamp’s Grade 1 classes at École McIsaac School wrapped up their science unit by celebrating the Five Senses of Christmas last week with the help of the Flin Flon Junior Bombers.

Students had the opportunity to rotate through five science-themed stations.

Under the leadership of Bombers Braden Lacoursiere and Isaac Tkachuk, students tested their sense of taste by trying to identify four different flavours of chocolate. They also used their sense of smell to identify the scent of a Christmas tree.

Rylan Tkachuk and Joey Leonidas led students through a sink-or-float science investigation using the scientific method. Students were asked what would happen if a the gingerbread man fell into water. They then dropped a cookie in a vase of water to test their hypothesis.

Brandon Switzer had students test their sense of touch by feeling Christmas objects hidden in a stocking. Without peeking, the students had to guess what was inside.

For a little science break, Tyson Empey treated the kids to a couple of Gingerbread Man stories and a candy cane treat.

At the final station, Mitch Foyle and Josh Hayward talked about the sense of sight and hearing. Students identified the sound of a jingle bell that was hidden in a box and then peeped through tiny holes to guess what Christmas objects were hidden inside presents.

Lots of learning and laughs filled the hallways of McIsaac School.
