Flin Flon army cadets pass inspection, accept awards

Sharp salutes and proud smiles marked the 2328 Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps’ annual inspection Monday evening. Bernie Cluff, a local Korean war veteran, helped inspect the cadets at the Creighton Sportex.

The inspection was followed by year-end awards and presentations, including the Best First Year Cadet, the Lord Strathcona Trust Medal and the Cadet Legion Medal of Excellence.

Receiving awards were:

Capt. WA Sweeney Award (general proficiency by a senior cadet) - MCpl Kaylee Banting; CWO Fisher Trophy (general proficiency by a junior cadet) - LCpl Jemedie Morris; 2lt M Beauchamp Trophy (dress and deportment) - LCpl Tristan Kolensoky; Peter Popp Trophy (top rifle team) - Cpl Jemedie Morris, Sgt Jordan Panagabko, Sgt Cassandra Porteous, MCpl Kaylee Banting and Cpl Torin Abrahamson; Ubique Trophy (recruiting) - Sgt Cassandra Porteous; Lt. Col. FS Gira Trophy (citizenship) - Sgt Jordan Panagabko; Major MG Naylor Award (dedication and commitment) - Cpl Torin Abrahamson; Best Attendance - Sgt Tyler Highfield and Cpl Jemedie Morris; Best First Year Cadet - LCpl Tristan Kolenosky; Lord Strathcona Trust Medal - Sgt Tyler Highfield; Cadet Legion Medal of Excellence - Sgt Matthew Reimer.
