Fishing season starts in the northwest and north central lakes this Saturday, May 22. Licences are available at over 700 venders throughout the province including any Manitoba Conservation district offices. Changes to angling regulations for 2004 can be found in the 2004 Manitoba Anglers' Guide, available where licences are purchased. Proposed angling regulation changes for 2005 are also listed and anglers are asked to provide comments as part of the regulation review process. Manitoba boasts some of the finest angling in Canada for both numbers and size of fish as shown by the increase in angling activity in the province. The number and type of fish that anglers can harvest may vary depending on licence type. For example, a regular licence entitles the holder to six walleye, six pike and two lake trout. A conservation licence allows four walleye, four pike and one lake trout. Details are available in the Anglers' Guide and anglers are urged to review the guide prior to angling.
