Jonathon Naylor Editor While Christmas traditions are fit for the entire family, the same cannot always be said for New Year's Eve. So CADAC and Creighton Community School are offering residents of all ages a chance to ring in 2013 without alcohol or other substances. First Night Out will be held at the Creighton school gym on Dec. 31 with a potluck, dance and midnight balloon drop among the fun. 'What better way to start the New Year than spending it with the ones you love,' says organizer Laurel Mackie. Mackie says the evening is ideal for everyone, including seniors who may otherwise be alone and babysitters looking after the kids for the night. Parents or a guardian must accompany children. At the stroke of midnight, dozens of balloons drop from the ceiling. That will no doubt spark a scramble, as balloons will be stuffed with a variety of prizes donated by local businesses. There will be very limited transportation available at three pick-up points: Pioneer Square in Flin Flon and the band office and Alpine Convenience in Denare Beach. Those who have absolutely no other means of transportation are to be at one of those locations at 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 31. If available seating exceeds the number of riders, some people will have to be turned away. After the evening's celebrations, riders will be dropped off at those same locations. The transportation is being provided courtesy of the Lions Club and the Creighton Community Policing Board. Economical First Night Out is an economical way to celebrate at a time when credit cards are maxed out from holiday spending. Formerly an annual event, First Night Out now takes place every second year, typically drawing between 250 and 300 celebrators. Tickets must be purchased in advance. They are now on sale at CADAC, the library, the Friendship Centre, The Orange Toad, Coutts' Convenience Centre, Di's Confectionery, Super K Convenience, Your Dollar Store with More, Candy Bar and the Gateway.
