Fires and mishaps have been keeping Creighton firefighters busy. At their regular meeting last week, town council reviewed Fire Chief Robert Larocque's May-June report, which detailed nine incidents: Wednesday, May 2: garage fire on Bereskin Avenue Thursday, May 10: motor home fire on Five Corners Wednesday, May 23: black smoke coming from roof of Creighton Community School Sunday, May 27: automobile collision by Jan Lake on HIghway 135 Tuesday, May 29: kitchen fire contained to oven on Creighton Avenue Wednesday, May 30: alarm system activated at the trailer court; false alarm Wednesday, June 6: derelict-vehicle fire on Broderick Avenue Sunday, June 17: small brush fire behind a Third Avenue home Wednesday, June 27: paramedics requested firefighters attend Wekash Lake outside Creighton following a fatal jet ski mishap; two people were missing The Creighton Fire Department received some welcome news in town council's latest budget, which sets aside $100,000 for the eventual purchase of a new fire truck. Council did the same thing last year, meaning the fund for a new truck now has $200,000. It is expected a new truck will cost between $500,000 and $600,000.
