Members of the Flin Flon Fire Department traded in their boots and masks for burgers and fishing rods yesterday afternoon. About 50 firefighters, their spouses and children enjoyed a picnic at the Rotary Wheel featuring games, catch-and-release fishing at Manmade Lake and plenty of laughs. Lana Nagy of the Firebelles, the group of spouses that organized the event, said that the firefighters don't often get to participate in a fun event together, and that the picnic allowed them to do just that. Fire Chief Jim Petrie commented that the picnic was an excellent way to build camaraderie among the firefighters and their families. Nagy said she hopes the picnic will become an annual event. Other events yesterday included an egg race, in which children and parents raced against one another with a egg carefully balanced in a spoon, face-painting and a scavenger hunt. Petrie commended the Firebelles for all of their work to help the fire department, saying the firefighters' jobs are made much easier thanks to their support.
