Flora Campbell was the lucky winner of the beautiful Christmas tree that has been on display at the Scotiabank for awhile. The Firebelles raffled off the tree after Canadian Tire had donated the 7.5 ft. Rocky Mountain Pine Christmas tree. The ladies from the Firebelles bought decorations and decorated the tree. The tickets went very well. The Firebelles are planning on doing the same thing next year. The Firebelles were organized in 1957 and will celebrate their 50th anniversary in 2007. They are the wives of the firemen and they meet once a month. These women are always ready with coffee and sandwiches if their men get called out to a fire that takes a long time to fight. The Firebelles run poster contests in the schools during Fire Prevention Week, make table centres etc. and decorate the Community Hall for their annual spring banquet and, mainly, they donate to anyone in Flin Flon who has a loss of 60 per cent or more due to a fire. They also have fundraisers such as garage sales, work at banquets, and have put out a cook book as well as the Christmas tree raffle to raise money for such events. The Firebelles are planning a garage sale in the spring with some of the proceeds going to make a purchase for the Seniors at Hemlock. They all suffered a great loss a couple of years ago now. They are also planning on donating $100 to Ida Kozar's Children's Christmas Gift Program. Congratulations once again to Flora Campbell. What a wonderful way to start off the Christmas season!
