With four calls, March was a relatively quiet month for Flin Flon firefighters: March 1, 6:14 p.m. A caller stated that there was smoke inside the seniors apartments on Hemlock Drive. The fire department determined that it was coming from a heating unit located in the main assembly area. The power to the furnace was turned off and the building was ventilated. The fire chief and 16 firefighters responded. March 9, 3:15 a.m. The RCMP requested the fire department attend a possible fire north of Cranberry Portage, where smoke could be seen. En route the fire department was turned back as it was determined that the fire was located at the Cranberry Portage landfill. The fire chief and 17 firefighters responded. March 14, 8:20 a.m. A caller stated that the fire alarm system had activated inside the Adams Street apartments. Upon arrival, firefighters determined that the cause of the alarm was from a 10-pound dry chemical fire extinguisher that had been discharged on the second floor. The individual responsible for discharging the extinguisher has paid for the fire department expenses. The fire chief and nine firefighters responded. March 18, 10:21 p.m. A fire alarm from Hill Street was reported. Upon arrival, the fire department determined that the alarm was false. The on-call Officer and eight firefighters responded. The number of alarms for the corresponding month of the previous year, 2010, totalled zero.
