Fire Chief's Report: Structure fire, accidents spark calls

Jan. 6: Gas leak investigation at 9 Scarth Avenue, 16:50. Fire chief and rescue one responded. Fire crews could not locate a gas leak but did find a faulty furnace and mitigated a future fire hazard. Jan.

Jan. 6: Gas leak investigation at 9 Scarth Avenue, 16:50. Fire chief and rescue one responded. Fire crews could not locate a gas leak but did find a faulty furnace and mitigated a future fire hazard.

Jan. 7: Residential structure fire at 63 Hapnot Street, 03:27. Rescue one, engine two, engine one and fire chief responded. Fire crews found heavy smoke and fire coming through the rear of the structure. Using updated and improved fire tactics, fire crews made entry into the structure and quickly extinguished the fire. Searches of the residence came up negative. The structure sustained substantial fire damage to the rear of the residence. No injuries were reported and the fire cause was determined to be arson.

Jan. 9: Residential fire alarm at 90 Callinan Street, 04:31. Fire chief and engine two responded. Smoke alarm was tripped due to steam from a leaking hot water tank.

Jan. 9, Medical assistance at 260 Dadson Row, 4:30. A page was received to assist EMS crews at 260 Dadson Row. Rescue one responded. Fire crews assisted EMS crews lifting the patient at the residence.

Jan. 23, Motor vehicle collision, North Ave & Main Street, 13:57. A page was received for a two-vehicle collision at the intersection. Rescue one responded. No injuries were reported.

Jan. 24, Motor vehicle collision, Highway 10A, 16:46. A page was received for a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Walmart and Highway 10A. Rescue one responded and duty officer responded. One patient had to be extricated from the vehicle.

Jan. 30, Medical assistance at 6 Hiawatha Ave Jan. 30, 19:14. A page was received to assist EMS crews at 6 Hiawatha Avenue. Rescue one responded. Fire crews assisted EMS crews lifting the patient at the residence.

Jan. 30, Power line fire, 24 Terrace Avenue, 20:48. Duty officer and engine two. Small fire was extinguished by fire crews. Manitoba Hydro was called to repair line.

January’s fire damage losses were $55,000. A total of eight incidents were recorded for the month of January. The total number of incidents for the corresponding month of January in 2018 was six.
