A buildup of chimney residue was to at the root of a chimney fire in Creighton Tuesday night. Members of the Creighton Fire Dept. rushed to a Creighton Ave. home at 9:20 p.m. to tackle the fire, which did not cause any damage. Firefighters left the scene less than one hour later, having determined the cause to be an accumulation of "creosote," a natural byproduct of burning wood. Fire Chief Robert Larocque reminds residents to have their chimneys cleaned on a regular basis so incidents such as this may be avoided. While Tuesday's incident did not cause damage, chimney fires are potentially very dangerous and can easily spread.
