A buildup of residue was at the root of a chimney fire in the Flin Flon Trailer Court early Wednesday evening. Firefighters raced to the Willow Crescent trailer to find the the six-inch chimney pipe had just a two-inch opening due to a buildup of creosote, a natural byproduct of burning wood. Firefighters entered the trailer and put down tarps before proceeding to clean the chimney. The fire left no damage. Fire Chief Jim Petrie informed the owner that the chimney cannot be used until approval is obtained by the proper authorities. Petrie commented that any fire occurring in an older trailer is potentially very dangerous because the structures can burn quickly. Sixteen firefighters responded to the call along with the fire chief at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
