Jonathon Naylor Editor BacTech Environmental Corp. recently commenced a field investigation on its future bioleach remediation processing plant site in Snow Lake. The field investigation includes the drilling of deep test holes with a continuous flight auger drill rig. The company said results will provide detailed site conditions to begin the front end engineering design _ civil specifications for the plant and tank farm areas. BacTech also said an Environmental Act Proposal was submitted to the Manitoba government. It was completed by Golder Associates Ltd. of Winnipeg, under direction from BacTech. 'Both of these events move us one step closer to realizing our objectives, that being building North America's first bioleach plant for tailings reclamation,' said BacTech President and CEO Ross Orr, 'and in this case, the remediation of approximately 300,000 tonnes of arsenopyrite concentrate impounded on the surface.' BacTech plans to build in Snow Lake a high-tech bioleach plant that will process an old pile of mine waste known locally as 'Toke Mountain'. The plant will not only neutralize the toxic waste, but will also extract from within it gold that could not be recovered by the technology of the day.
