Jonathon Naylor Editor Creighton and Denare Beach won't be ordering new mayor nameplates, but their elected councils could change drastically next month. Bruce Fidler of Creighton and Carl Lentowicz of Denare Beach will be acclaimed to four-year mayoral terms following the Oct. 24 elections. While the top jobs are already decided, voters in the two communities will cast their ballots for aldermen (in Creighton) and councillors (in Denare Beach). In Creighton, incumbents Jeff Lane, Darren Grant, Don Aasen and Val Dixon will vie for re-election. Challenging them are Shirley Owen, Jarrett Toffan, Lorene Bonnett and Neal Andrusiak. Current Creighton aldermen La Verne Hinzman and Leslie Wood have chosen not to run again. In Denare Beach, incumbents Wanda Ginnell, Anne Schiltroth, Karen Thomson and Frank Wiegers will again be on the ballot. Also running are Eileen Blake, Joanne Burkholder, Jean Champagne, Scott McCullum and Davis McKay. Not seeking re-election in Denare Beach are Dale Holmgren and his daughter, Nicole Holmgren. There are enough candidates to have an election for the Creighton School Board, with seven candidates vying for five vacant positions. Incumbents Tracy Andrusiak, Raymond Biberdorf, Janet Clark, Heather Jacobson and Rhonda Werbicki are all seeking reelection. Challenging them are former trustee Terry Brown and Davis McKay. Hermeline Fagnan, the board's Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation representative, will be acclaimed. In Creighton, this will mark Mayor Fidler's fourth straight term. Not once since first being acclaimed in 2003 has he faced a challenger. In Denare Beach, Mayor Lentowicz will enter his sixth straight term, having been mayor since 1997, as time has done little to diminish his political popularity. The names of the mayoral and council candidates were announced Wednesday.
