Trout Festival organizers have turned to the City of Flin Flon to save the decades' old tradition from a possible cancellation. In a letter reviewed at Tuesday's city council meeting, organizer Greg East asked that a municipal recreation employee's hours be extended for a few months to provide much-needed assistance to the festival. With the employee's help in planning, setting up meetings, making phone calls and other duties, "we could achieve our goals and ultimately save the festival," he wrote. The matter of insurance must also be addressed, wrote East, noting that the cost of insurance for a festival of this size "would/will bankrupt the organization within several years." "Let's keep the festival alive," he concluded. Mayor Dennis Ballard said he had a lot of questions about the letter, which was referred to the Committee of the Whole for further discussion.
