The Bust The Winter Blues Festival got off to a 'quacking' good start Wednesday night as 1,000 ducks invaded the Flin Flon Aqua Centre. The first event of the new festival saw 11 people awarded prizes for having their ducks randomly pulled from the brink by scuba diver Ryan McCann. When the waves had settled, Steve Garychuk took the top prize of $500, Phil Cardell won $250 for second place and Greg Phair was awarded $125 for third. This week marks the first year for the festival that has combined the former Chilly Willy Winter Festival and the annual Sled Dog Races. "There has been tremendous support from the local businesses," said Heather Todoschuk, a member of the organizing committee. She went on to say that this weekend's events will have something for the whole family to enjoy. Opening ceremonies for the Bust The Winter Blues Festival are set for this evening at the Creighton Sportex and Lions Spray Pool area at 7 p.m. There will be free hot dogs and hot chocolate along with a bonfire. See 'Festival' P.# Con't from P.# Also, the Star Dome, a portable planetarium will be at the Sportex along with a big telescope that will be available, providing the skies are clear. The festival runs through Sunday with some of the events including: sliding parties, family fishing derby, snowmobile poker run, flea market, cards, pancake breakfast, trappers events and sled dog races on Ross Lake, and two socials Ð one for kids with a Much Music video dance tonight at Creighton Community Hall, and an adult social Saturday evening at the Flin Flon Community Hall. There are festival flyers with the official schedule of events available at various business around the area. The Bust The Winter Blues Festival is being organized by Flin Flon Parks and Recreation, Creighton Recreation and Parks, Flin Flon Friendship Centre and Creighton Community School.
