At approximately 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, Pelican Narrows RCMP and Fire Department were dispatched to a house fire in Pelican Narrows, Sask. The occupants of the residence were an elderly couple and their 10-year-old great granddaughter. The elderly couple were able to escape from the residence unharmed and it was believed the child had made it out as well. The residence burned to the ground and remains of what is suspected to be the young child were located amongst the debris later on in the morning. An investigative team from Emergency Management and Fire Safety attended and processed the scene. The human remains have been transported to City Hospital in Saskatoon for autopsy at a date and time yet to be determined. The identity of the child is not being released at this time. The cause and origin of the fire is still under investigation.
