A Canadian soldier perished in a single vehicle accident outside The Pas on Sunday afternoon. Pte. Martin McGillvary, 29, was on leave from Canadian Forces Base in Shilo, Man., when the driver drove into a drainage ditch filled with three feet of water, causing the vehicle to roll over onto its roof. The vehicle entered the ditch when the driver, who sustained only minor injuries, attempted to pass two vehicles traveling at a slower speed, The Pas RCMP said. Police report that passing motorists came to their immediate assistance, pushing the vehicle back on its tires and removing the two individuals. The accident took place five kilometres west of The Pas on Highway 283 at 12:30 p.m. Sunday. Police are continuing their investigation.
