At least one group of Canadians is pleased with the re-election of U.S. President George W. Bush. Many Manitoba farmers say Bush would be more likely to reopen the border to Canadian cattle than his challenger in the recent election, John Kerry. Canadian cattle remains barred from crossing the border. The U.S. implemented the ban in response to a single case of BSE, or Mad Cow disease, discovered in Alberta in May 2003. The re-elected president has said he will work toward reopening the border to the cattle. "We may not like George Bush's policies but, for the cattle business it was probably better that he was elected than John Kerry because at least now we know who we're dealing with," Rick Wright, manager of Heartland Services in Brandon, told CBC.
