Jonathon Naylor Editor Budding young scientists put their hypothesis to the test last week at the first-ever Flin Flon Citywide Science Fair. Held at the R.H. Channing Auditorium last Wednesday, March 6, the event merged the science fairs of Ecole McIsaac and Ruth Betts Community schools. 'There are some absolutely fantastic projects,' said coordinator George Trevor. 'We've got a large amount of involvement from students.' Trevor said merging the two science fairs allowed judges extra time to view the projects and helped create public awareness for the students' work. 'Hopefully it brings the community together, I think that's part of it, and it makes it more of an event,' said Trevor, a science teacher at Hapnot Collegiate. The fair showcased about 120 projects produced by students from grades 1-8. Students in grades 1-3 who entered received a participation award and small prize, but their projects were not formally judged. Winning in the 'best overall' category for McIsaac were Brandon Kolt and Austin Dubreuil for Warriors vs. Worriers. The best overall winner for Ruth Betts was Kalena Kittle for Drag Racing.
