Strong nickel prices are prompting Callinan Mines Ltd. to advance its exploration efforts in the Thompson Nickel Belt. The Vancouver-based mining company recently acquired two claims on the Belt, Pine and Phillips Lake, which it says are known to contain host rocks common to high grade nickel. "Past drilling has produced exciting results, and Callinan is looking forward to a successful [drill program]," reads a statement on the company's website. Based on drill results from the previous operator and the results of a magnetic survey, Callinan's geologists will design a drill program to test numerous shallow targets. The exploration work is set to begin next month.7/28/2004
