If exploration is the future of mining, then that future has gotten brighter for the Flin Flon-Snow Lake area. The Manitoba government has opened its wallet to the tune of nearly $200,000 to help exploration companies search for minerals in the area. Ten area companies have received between $2,008 and $53,250 in assistance to seek out gold, copper, zinc, nickel, and platinum group elements. The cash is part of a $1.4 million assistance package being divvied up between 38 companies across the province through the Mineral Exploration Assistance Program (MEAP). "This program promotes investment in regions where new discoveries are need to support our mining communities," said Industry, Economic Development, and Mines Minister Scott Smith in a news release. "MEAP helps support both upstart enterprising companies as well as major mining company operations that have grown to become among the largest in the world." The nearly $200,000 for the Flin Flon-Snow Lake area consists of: $53,250 to Hudson Bay Exploration and Development for copper and zinc exploration. $27,947 to Foran Mining Corporation for gold exploration. $26,450 to Coniagas Resources Ltd. for gold exploration. $22,343 to Pioneer Metals Corp. for gold exploration. $22,021 to Marksmen Resources Ltd. for copper and zinc exploration. $15,975 to 1126774 Ontario Ltd. for gold exploration. $12,887 to Buhlmann and Associates Inc. for gold exploration. $9,742 to A.L. Parres Ltd. for gold exploration. $2,856 to W.S. Ferreira Ltd. for nickel, copper, and platinum group elements exploration. $2,008 to W. Bruce Dunlop Ltd. for gold exploration. In addition, $121,000 has gone to exploration projects in the Lynn Lake-Leaf Rapids area, and nearly $308,000 for projects in the Thompson Nickel Belt and Extension.
