Police have arrested Churchill's former chief administrative officer for allegedly defrauding the northern town. Last November, Churchill RCMP received a report of suspected financial discrepancies resulting in the Town of Churchill being defrauded in excess of $140,000. Churchill RCMP launched an investigation with the assistance of the RCMP D Division Financial Integrity Unit. Police say the evidence they gathered suggests that between August and September 2012, the municipality was the victim of two bogus invoices totalling financial losses of more than $140,000. Last week, the RCMP Financial Integrity Unit arrested the town's former chief administrative officer, a 44-year-old man who had moved to the RM of Springfield. He faces two counts of Fraud Over $5,000, two counts of Theft Over $5,000 and one count of Breach of Trust. He has been released on a recognizance with conditions and is due to appear in Churchill court on Aug. 13. Police are continuing their investigation.
