Dear Readers,
The Reminder’s decision to end its Monday edition promises an improved publication for readers and advertisers.
Today’s edition marks the final time we will publish on a Monday. Our Wednesday and Friday editions will continue and, we hope, grow.
The Monday edition was always challenging. Due to press deadlines, it was typically produced in 24 hours, sometimes less, beginning immediately after our Friday edition went to press.
The edition could also be a source of frustration for some readers, who wondered why they weren’t reading weekend news in their Monday paper.
When we had a press on site in Flin Flon, the paper could be produced and ready to go in short order. Since the closure of the press in 2005, we have printed the paper hours away, with Monday’s edition sent to press on Friday.
For our reporting staff, the conclusion of the Monday paper means much more time to devote to the Wednesday and Friday publications. Though we are proud of what we have been able to do with the Monday edition (long hours and all), we welcome that change.
This marks the third time The Reminder has evolved in this manner. When we launched in 1946, we came out six times a week. We reduced to five days a week in 1978 and to three in 2005, when we also adopted a much larger page size.
Tri-weekly – or even bi-weekly – newspapers are rare for smaller communities. The concept endured in Flin Flon and area thanks to the loyalty of our readers and advertisers.
As we progress into a bi-weekly newspaper, we look forward to continuing to serve you with the same dedication we have for nearly 70 years.
With timeliness crucial in the modern media world, we remind readers that breaking news is posted immediately on our website at thereminder.ca. Like our Facebook page for breaking news updates and more.
We thank our readers and advertisers for their ongoing support. Without you, there would be no Reminder.
