Mayor Cal Huntley is urging residents to call Operation Red Nose this holiday season – and for more reasons than one.
At last week’s city council meeting, Huntley said he was asked to reiterate that the service receives funding from MPI for each ride it provides.
“So if you have to go a block down the street and you think you can just jump in your vehicle and drive that block, why not give them a call?” Huntley said.
Red Nose provides rides to residents in their own vehicles when they are unfit to go behind the wheel themselves.
Riders can choose to make a donation, but even if they don’t program sponsor MPI makes a contribution for each ride.
Funds generated by Red Nose stay in the community for youth-oriented recreation initiatives.
Red Nose operates most Fridays and Saturdays in December (Dec. 25 and Dec. 26 are the exceptions) and on Dec. 31. The number to call is 204-687-RED1.
