Last week marked the beginning of construction-related changes to public access to the Flin Flon General Hospital.
The main hospital entrance is no longer accessible, and the Northern Health Region (NHR) has provided information to The Reminder about how parking and access will be handled while construction is underway.
Entry to the hospital is now at the back, with parking available for patients, visitors and volunteers in the Whitney Forum parking lot. Signs show where the different types of hospital parking are available, and also guide people to the entrance from the parking lot.
Public parking is available during regular business hours, 8 am to 5 pm, for visitors and patients.
There is also a designated public parking area for visitors and patients requiring parking for a 24-hour period.
People dropping off patients or volunteers will be able to drive their vehicles through the parking lot up to the facility for drop-off, and then continue back to the parking lot.
All parking areas are marked and the Northern Health Region asks the public to observe the signs when entering the parking area.
Inside the hospital, signs provide direction to hospital services. There are also porters at the public entrance 24 hours a day, seven days a week, who can answer questions and provide directions and assistance.
The public entrance will be open from 7 am to 9 pm daily. After hours, entry will be available by using an intercom located to the right of the entrance doors. The intercom will notify the porters.
