Flin Flon school enrollment has declined for the eighth consecutive year, coming in even lower than had been projected. There are 62 fewer students in the hallways this fall compared to last, and based on the current funding formula, the decline will cost the division nearly $200,000 in provincial support in the next school year. Superintendent Blaine Veitch said the administration staff knew enrollment would shrink, but had projected the decline to be 44 students, not 62. Ruth Betts School was was hit the hardest, losing 34 students. McIsaac School Ecole McIsaac lost 19 students, Many Faces Education Centre 11 students and Hapnot Collegiate seven students. Only Parkdale School saw an enrollment increase, gaining nine students. Total enrollment now stands at 1,376 students, down 271 pupils since 1999. Since 1993, enrollment has gone down 438 students, or 25 per cent. Hapnot remains the largest school with 429 students, followed by McIsaac with 397, Parkdale with 200, Ruth Betts with 192 and Many Faces with 158. Veitch encouraged the public to attend an upcoming meeting at which information on possible remedies to the enrollment situation will be discussed. The meeting is slated for Wednesday, Nov. 3, at the McIsaac gymnasium beginning at 7 p.m. Meanwhile across the border, Creighton Community School enrollment is up 44 students, due primarily to the addition of grade 10. The rise consists of 39 grade 10 students and five students in the pre-kindergarten to grade 9 system. Creighton enrollment now stands at 412 students.
