The emergency room redevelopment project at the Flin Flon General Hospital is facing another round of delays.
The Northern Health Region (NHR) now says it expects the new emergency room to open in fall 2018, though a precise date was not announced.
A spokesperson for the NHR cited delays to the construction of the interior of the building along with unforeseen bedrock issues as the reason for postponing the opening of the building. The parking lot also requires work.
In September 2017 the NHR announced delays caused by “unforeseen site conditions” would push the opening of the ER back by a month to March 2018. By the end of February 2018, the NHR said electrical work, mechanical work, flooring, outside work and commissioning still needed to be completed, pushing the opening back to summer 2018.
The total cost for the ER expansion is about $25.2 million. Private fundraising is required to cover at least 10 per cent of the total project cost. About $620,000 remains to be raised.
