Beatles Night at Johnny’s Social Club – oh no, wait – that’s all sold out. Sorry to tell you and glad for the Wood ’n’ Wire team at the same time, but the tickets sold out for all four shows within four hours of going on sale!  So for the lucky ones who got tickets, the shows are Nov. 17, Nov. 19, Nov. 24 and Nov. 25, all at Johnny’s Social Club, at 7:30 pm. Doors open at
7 pm. It will be quite wonderful with some of the best musicians in Flin Flon – Mark Kolt, Brent and Susan Lethbridge, Johnny Bettger, C.C. Trubiak, Craig Bancroft, Paul Shearer and the amazing Faith Krahn.

There is another sold-out show happening on Nov. 18 – a house concert coffee house in support of the Aqua Centre Fund Drive. It is at 183 Murton Blvd and will feature those performers not doing the Beatles Night! You probably didn’t want to know!

Not to worry however, there are still loads of musical events with tickets still available for the audiences in our lovely, snow-covered region. The incredible, talented blues performer, Suzie Vinnick will be in town on Nov. 22 and again on Nov. 25 to perform Home Routes house concerts. The Nov. 22 show is at 19 Hemlock Drive (contact [email protected] for tickets) and the Nov. 25 show is at 183 Murton Blvd (contact [email protected] for tickets). Cost is $20 and in my humble opinion, worth every penny.

On Nov. 27 and Nov. 29, the Flin Flon Flutist Mikylo Odut will perform Carols and More, a concert of Christmas music featuring Mikylo on flute, Courtney Campbell on piano and Kim Jones on clarinet and vocals. Mikylo had an extremely busy spring and summer studying and practising for, then completely acing his Royal Conservatory of Music exams.

Mikylo obtained first class honours with distinction for flute, with a grade of 90 per cent then first class honours for music history and a pass in harmony and composition.

He was recently notified that he has also won the gold medal for the region. The Royal Conservatory states, “Gold Medals are awarded each academic year to exam candidates who have obtained the highest mark for their level, discipline and region while meeting all the necessary requirements.”

This young man is fantastic and should be supported and nurtured in his hometown.

The other musicians on the program deserve some accolades too.

Courtney Campbell, completed her undergraduate degree in music and is a beautiful piano player in addition to rocking the Centennial Library as its librarian.

The incredible Kim Jones has added to the massive resurgence of Flin Flon’s music scene both with her care and teaching of our kids and the fabulous Imrie Anna Jones trio.

Tickets are still available for the concert at St. Anne’s Church and cost $15 for adults, $10 for students and $5 for children. The cost goes up to $18, $12 and $6 at the door. The program begins at 7 pm. (It is a school night!).

NorVA Gallery is offering a Paint Party with Monique Rainville on Dec. 1. The subject is sunflowers and there will be expert instruction.

There are usually refreshments served and a good deal of laughter at these events so perhaps you might temper your expectations accordingly.

You might come up with a painting you would be proud to hang but maybe wait until the next morning to fully evaluate!  In any case, the party will be fun.  Please contact NorVA at 204-687-4237 or at [email protected] to register.

The Flin Flon Community Choir presents their Christmas show on Dec. 2, and on the weekend of Dec. 8 and 9 both Ham Sandwich Theatre and
C.C. Trubiak have special shows planned.  Stay tuned to this space for more information.
