Eleven deserving volunteers accepted awards in front of their peers, families and fellow citizens at the annual Celebrating Communities Gala. Recipients selected from Flin Flon, Creighton, Denare Beach and Snow Lake were honoured at the Oct. 10 event, held at the R.H. Channing Auditorium. Flin Flon's Katy Anderson, Dean Grove, Mark Kolt and Wayne Wallaker were recognized for their efforts over the years. Creighton recognized three volunteers this year as Dianna Boulet, Dela Chilson and Harland Garinger were recognized for their hard work in the community. Maureen McBratney and Ann Schiltroth were chosen from Denare Beach. Betty and Chester Rudd were recognized from Snow Lake. Following the volunteer awards, representatives from four local businesses were recognized. Creative Style Hair and Portrait Studio, Flin Flon Credit Union, Gardewine North and Nasselquist Jewelers were honoured for their contributions to the community. The Flin Flon and District Environment Council received this year's Community Award for its work to opezxrate and promote the Flin Flon Recycling Centre. The evening represented a partnership between Community Futures Greenstone, the Flin Flon and District Chamber of Commerce and area municipalities. The awards were presented _ as a surprise to some _ following a five-course meal. The catered event included a bacon-wrapped fillet with a whiskey maple glaze and a blue cheese crust; garlic mashed potatoes; butternut squash; and a cranberry salsa for the entree. Once all the plates were cleared and glasses were topped off, the presentations began. Emcee Dave Kendall got the remainder of the evening underway as he called upon dignitaries from each community to present their awards. The evening ended with the handing out of items from the silent auction.
