Four members of Flin Flon city council will for sure seek re-election while two more think it over and another calls
it quits.
Mayor George Fontaine and councillors Tim Babcock, Bill Hanson and Karen MacKinnon have confirmed they will be on the ballot for the Oct. 22 election.
Councillors Colleen McKee and Ken Pawlachuk were undecided as of press time. Coun. Skip Martin has already announced he won’t vie for a second term.
Confirming they will seek re-election to the Flin Flon school board are trustees Angela Simpson, Murray Skeavington and Tim Davis.
Trustees Glenn Smith and Vicki Davie will not be on the ballot. Trustees Karen Yeo and Trish Sattelberger had not decided one way or the other.
Candidates for both council and school board have until this Tuesday, Sept. 16 to declare their nomination. At that point, the names of all candidates become public.
At city hall, Hanson is the most experienced of the councillors with 15 years of service. He first served from 1992 to 1995. He rejoined council in 2002 and has remained ever since.
MacKinnon and McKee were first elected in 2006, the same year Fontaine joined as a councillor before becoming mayor in 2010. Babcock, Pawlachuk and Martin were also elected in 2010.
As for school board, Simpson is by far the most tenured trustee with 32 years of service. She has continuously served on the board since 1982.
Skeavington, the current board chair, and Davis have been trustees since 2002. Sattelberger, Smith and Yeo joined
in 2006.
The next civic elections in Creighton and Denare Beach will be held in 2016.
