If you like reality shows and are interested in Newfoundland history at the same time, then Quest for the Sea is for you. Quest for the Sea is the story of two families who travel back in time to experience life as it was lived in a 1937 Newfoundland outport community. Gathering at Hay Cove, the two families, the Wheelers and the Murrays, as well as Mary Ann and Ralph, spend a eye-opening two months fishing for cod and preparing authentic meals with only the bare necessities at their disposal. The local merchant has dropped off supplies for the outport in exchange for payment in cod. Both families must learn to conserve what little food they have for the duration of summer. The women find out that outport cooking takes an entire day, and the men leave to fish at dawn and don't arrive home until dusk. Everyone struggles with fatigue and exhaustion. Tensions rise as personalities clash among the group and as time runs out for the outport to meet its fish quota. Experience the remarkable ups and downs of life in Hay Cove. Two episodes have already aired but you can catch Quest for the Sea on Sundays on The History Channel. Something to Ponder A fair face may fade, but a beautiful soul lasts forever.1/20/2004
