Zane Grey is one of the greatest American authors and most of his books about the Old West are still read around the world. He wrote over 80 books and roughly 50 of them are still in print. If you ever get around to reading some of his books, look at his description of the western plains, the rivers, and the mountains. It is believed that he is describing some of the area around Grandy's River in Burgeo, Newfoundland because that's where Grey was when he wrote two of his books. Grey's favourite hobby was sport-fishing and it was on these fishing trips that he wrote most of his famous books. Grey was a member of an elite group who used cabins in an area around Burgeo. The cabins were owned by the Ball Company, which made Mason jars. One of the books he is believed to have written on a trip to Newfoundland was the one that was to become his most famous, and which has been done for the movies several times: Riders of the Purple Sage. Something to Ponder: You know you are getting older when you discover that all your wild oats are kept in an All Bran box.
