He is the new Premier of Newfoundland. Danny Williams, was a self-made millionaire and high-profile St. John's lawyer before becoming Leader of the Progressive Conservative Party in Newfoundland. He comes from a family with strong Conservative traditions. While still in law school, Danny Williams led an association to get Newfoundland's first cable television licence and built Cable Atlantic into one of the largest communications companies in Atlantic Canada. Born August 4, 1950 in St. John's, Danny Williams has been a lawyer since 1972 and was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1984. He also has a BA in political science and economics from the Memorial University of Newfoundland. A degree in Arts in Law from Oxford University, England, his LL.B from Dalhousie University, Halifax, Nova Scotia and is a Rhodes Scholar. Premier Williams and his Progressive Conservatives received a majority government in Newfoundland's election this past week. ReminderÉ Drive carefully and watch for trick or treaters.
