Don't tell Lyle Kennedy that $20 doesn't go very far these days. That's how much the Flin Flon man paid for three tickets in the Lions Club's Christmas Draw, one of which was picked for the grand prize of a 2005 Chevy Colorado truck. "I was not quite believing I had won at first," said Kennedy, whose new red truck was dropped off at his home on Christmas day. With a retail value of approximately $29,115, the slick vehicle comes with a 2.8-litre, four cylinder engine, CD player, air conditioning and a host of other features. Kennedy, a cellhouse operator at HBMS, bought his tickets about a week before the draw at the Super K Convenience Store. He already owned a car and a truck and hasn't decided whether he will keep his prize, which was purchased from Dean Cooley GM in The Pas. Kennedy said he's won some small cash prizes in different draws in the past, but never anything this substantial. "People come up to me and congratulate me, and it's just kind of weird," he said, adding that his win is still sinking in. Each year, the vehicle draw is the most successful Lions Club fundraiser, turning a profit of about $15,000 if all the tickets are sold. Proceeds stay in the community, going toward projects supported by the Lions. The club printed 9,000 tickets but has not yet calculated how many were sold.
