Draw bolsters club’s efforts

If you want an example of a win-win, look no further than the Flin Flon Lions Club’s Monster 50/50 Cash Draw. Monday’s draw left two lucky winners – Susan Tschetter and Mandy Etienne – sharing a cash prize of $9,470.

If you want an example of a win-win, look no further than the Flin Flon Lions Club’s Monster 50/50 Cash Draw.

Monday’s draw left two lucky winners – Susan Tschetter and Mandy Etienne – sharing a cash prize of $9,470.

It also left the Lions – and the community by virtue of the good work the club does – with $9,470 of its own.

With 947 of 3,000 tickets sold, the draw was nowhere near a sellout, but club officials were nonetheless pleased and look forward to spending the cash on worthy projects.

The draw was made Monday at 3 p.m. outside the Lions trailer on Main Street. CFAR’s Joe McCormick broadcast the proceedings live as The Reminder’s Jonathon Naylor drew the winning ticket from a small hand-cranked drum.

Tickets sold for $20 apiece at a variety of area locations.

While it had been hoped that the two winners could be contacted for a post-draw photo-op, they could not be immediately reached.

In 2012, the 50/50 draw replaced the Lions’ traditional summer draw for a new vehicle.

Monica Lone, this year’s draw co-chair along with Andy Stewart, said the 50/50 format lessened the club’s risk.

The club’s next major fundraiser will be its vehicle draw on Christmas Day.
