A group of volunteers were recognized Monday for braving some chilly January temperatures for a good cause. Canvassers for the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba raised $3,084 during their door-to-door canvass in Flin Flon. "Some of them went out in minus-50 windchill," said coordinator Grace Crofford. "All in all, they were very dedicated." A total of 26 people volunteered to canvass. A group of them showed up at the Salvation Army Church on Monday evening for an appreciation night, which included a dinner. The volunteers were also presented with their choice of apparel from the Mitkas-Hunter Hope Foundation Inc., whose goal is to build a local 10-bed care facility for people with Alzheimer's Disease. During the appreciation night, Helen Hunter, who established the foundation, donated $180 to the canvass. The money represents 10 per cent of the amount the foundation collected during its own canvass last year.
