Residents are encouraged to offer donations and prayers for a local couple whose infant son is recovering from open heart surgery. Seven-week-old Lachlan Leel, born to Corby Leel and Michelle Deiter, must remain in a Edmonton hospital for at least a month so his condition may be monitored. "Lachlan and his family have a long road ahead of healing and medical expenses, and are being kept far from home and work," said Wendy Rye, a friend of the parents. "Making ends meet and dealing with all the stress and worry isn't easy." Rye and Arlene Murray, another friend of the parents, have placed collection buckets at numerous businesses in Flin Flon and Creighton to help the family in their time of need. All of the funds go directly to The Lachlan Leel Emergency Fund. "The reason for the fundraising is so we as a community can pull together in this time of need and help show this young family what kind of a wonderful community we are," commented Rye. "All the support of donations and prayers are greatly appreciated," she added. Young Lachlan was born with a condition known as Total Anomalous Pulmonary Venous Connection, a rare congenital heart defect that has required the infant to have two separate surgeries. The infant underwent his first surgery in an Edmonton hospital on October 15 and has since gone back for a second operation to reconstruct his chest plate. Aside from many local establishments, both on Main Street and off, the collection buckets will also be placed in each cab owned by Ty's Taxi.
