Hundreds of hours of preparation will all come to fruition this weekend, as Hapnot Collegiate presents their Dinner Theatre production of Lucky Dollar, Private Eye. Julian Colt stars as private detective Lucky Dollar, the show's main character. A cast of over 25 students have each put in over a hundred hours of rehearsal time. "One of the characters dies, and everyone else wants this thing that he had," explains Jenni Jones, who plays Pandora Sugarland. "It's a big story about who stole what, who paid for what, and it all involves Lucky Dollar. It's really hilarious." Not to give too much away, the 'thing' that everyone wants is the Pearl of Persia. It is a very valuable pearl, that seems to belong to everyone and no one at the same time. The Kimono wants the pearl because it once belonged to a pagan idol. She wishes to return the pearl to save face for her family. Montrose Hogsbreathe wants the pearl because he once owned it, but it was later stolen from him. Joe Weasel wants the pearl because it was bought from him by Throckmorton Mintworth using food coupons. Unfortunately for Throckmorton, he doesn't quite make it through to the end of the play. Other highlights include Lucky Dollar's nightmare scene complete with special effects, and the musical background stylings of the Dollarettes. Tickets are available at the Hapnot office until 4 p.m. today. For more information, contact Hapnot Collegiate at 687-7506.
