In early January, a group of dedicated volunteers in Denare Beach declared that they are willing to form a Winterfestival Committee. The Recreation Board had originally made the difficult decision to cancel the event because earlier attempts to form a committee were met with failure. The enthusiasm and level of commitment displayed by the new committee persuaded the board to overturn their earlier decision and go ahead with hosting the 27th Annual Denare Beach Winterfestival. The new committee is charged with passion and some fresh ideas, so it looks like the Denare Beach Winterfestival may be better than ever. See 'Additions' P.# Con't from P.# One of the most noteworthy additions to this year's schedule is a plan to include some dog sled racing, which had been phased out of the festival back in 1999. The new committee is also planning to bring back some other historical events including animal calling, arm wrestling and tea boiling. With these old events back in the line-up, and a few new ones too, it seems February 25, 26 and 27 will be a weekend you won't want to miss! "Ideally, we prefer to start preparing for the Winterfestival in November, so we are going to have to work really hard to get things ready on time," says Recreation Director Natasha Thomson, who also stated that, "the committee is really dedicated, and we are delighted to have such a great team working on the event." With only a month to prepare, the whole committee is moving full steam ahead with the planning and preparations needed to host this three-day event. The committee requests your support in their efforts to fund-raise for the Winterfestival. They are currently seeking financial sponsorship and merchandise donations; they urge you to support their effort to save this important community event. They are also hosting afternoon meat draws at Rocky View OTA every Saturday until the Winterfestival and invite you to show your support by coming out and purchasing some tickets for the draws.
