Denare Beach voters will choose two of four candidates to fill a pair of village council vacancies.
Wanda Ginnell, Greg McBratney, Elfriede Reimer and Paul Trottier have put their names on the ballot for an April 15 by-election.
Nominations closed on Wednesday afternoon. Candidates had until 4:30 pm yesterday – after The Reminder went to press – to pull out of the race, but this rarely happens.
The by-election became necessary when rookie councillors Davis McKay and Joanne Burkholder resigned their seats a week apart in December.
For Ginnell, the by-election marks an opportunity to return to council after losing her seat in the 2012 general election.
The current scaled down version of Denare Beach village council consists of Mayor Carl Lentowicz and councillors Jean Champagne, Karen Thomson, Frank Wiegers and Scott McCullum.
Denare Beach tends to enjoy higher voter turnouts than both Flin Flon and Creighton.
The village’s 2012 election saw a 52 per cent turnout compared to about 22 per cent in Creighton. Flin Flon’s 2014 civic election saw 35 per cent of eligible voters cast ballots.
