Dembinsky’s, then known as the Western Trade Store, has been a staple of Flin Flon’s Main Street since the late 1920s.

This summer will mark the end of an era for a Flin Flon landmark.

Dembinsky’s owner Ken Dowding will be retiring in September after running the Flin Flon apparel store for 33 years.

Dowding said the building is in the process of being sold, and the store will likely be operated under new ownership, though nothing has been finalized.

According to the Manitoba Historical Society, Isaac Benjamin Dembinsky opened the store on Flin Flon’s Main Street in 1928 as one of a number of northern Manitoba stores that he operated under the Western Trading Company name.

The stores in Flin Flon and The Pas later operated under the name Ben Dembinsky Limited.

The Flin Flon Dembinsky’s was managed as a family business until 1983, when Dowding and his now-deceased business partner Ken Rusk purchased the store.
